Singles should travel around the world. Lovesick B.C. dentist flies to Ireland to find mystery woman(ZT)

A lovesick B.C. dentist flew to Ireland this month to scour the emerald isle for a red-haired, freckled colleen he met while vacationing last year.

Dr. Sandy Crocker met the woman in a cafe in the tiny west coast town of Ennistymon, County Clare. The two chatted for only a few minutes before she disappeared into the Irish mists.

“She never left my mind, so I decided why not go back and try to find her,” he told the Clare People newspaper.

“Maybe it’s a shot in dark but if it is meant to be, if it’s fate, then I might bump into her walking down the street or in a shop somewhere.”

He describes the woman as in her mid- to late-20s, with reddish brown hair and freckles. The two met July 9, 2011, in the An Teach Bia cafe.

Crocker confirmed in an email that he was in Ireland without a phone or laptop.

“Had no idea that a simple warm gesture would garner such attention,” he wrote, promising to tell the story upon his return.

He did not say whether his journey had been successful.

The Irish media has been captivated by the story, with Celtic bookies even taking bets on his chances.

Ladbrokes, a U.K. bookmaker, places his odds of marrying the gal at 50 to 1, with a 4 to 5 chance she is already married.

“If she’s in her mid- to late-20s, and she’s a relatively attractive girl, she’s likely to be taken,” said Hayley O’Connor, a Ladbrokes spokesperson.

However, Irish women aren’t used to being aggressively pursued, which could score Crocker points, she said.

“In Ireland, men, if they like you, they sort of tease you. They wouldn’t flatter you,” she said.

As for his loose description of the girl, O’Connor laughed, “He won’t win any literary prizes.”

“To say I fell in love with a girl who has freckles and red hair in Ireland, you’re not exactly narrowing it down.”

Crocker told the Clare People that if he discovers she’s married, he’s prepared to move on.

“If I meet her again and it turns out she is married to a nice fella . . . then I don’t think I would have a problem with that,” he said.

On Friday, Crocker’s online dating profile — which implored the mystery woman to get in touch — had been taken down.

Could love have prevailed? Depends on whether you’re a romantic or a cynic.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
